About mylearningni

"The number one benefit of information technology is that it empowers people to do what they want to do. It lets people be creative. It lets people be productive. It lets people learn things they didn’t think they could learn before, and so in a sense it is all about potential."
Steve Ballmer, Chief Executive, Microsoft

What is mylearningni?
mylearningni is a Web 2.0 focussed learning portal aimed at adult learners. It has been developed and is maintained by EGSA.

mylearningni will help adults to:

  • Learn more about digital participation
  • Develop digital skills using Web 2.0 technologies
  • Share and communicate ideas with other users online
  • Access information and support on learning and careers choices
Adult learner sets up own business

What will I learn?
mylearningni will help you learn more about digital participation through developing your digital skills using a range of Web 2.0 tools. You will be able to share and communicate ideas and information with other users online – leading to the creation of a learning community.

To help you achieve this we have provided a collection of online services and presented these in the form of tasks for you to complete. This portal uses the latest Web 2.0 tools such as Blogs and Forums, – web spaces to enable open discussions and online meetings between adult learners and also between learners and education providers, business leaders, perhaps even those who make learning policy.

Some of these services may be familiar, others may not. For more information on these Web 2.0 services go to Your Digital Journey.

Where can I find out more?
Learning and skills are crucial to economic and social development: but it is not always appreciated that many people – especially those who have been out of formal education for some time and who may feel they are too old to do anything new – need access to information and support to make what might turn out to be life changing decisions. mylearningni also contains key information and support on learning and careers choices - you can find this in course search or you can contact EGSA for more advice.

What is EGSA?
EGSA - the Educational Guidance Service for Adults - is a Northern Ireland based, not-for-profit, organisation that aims to connect adults with learning. Each year we help thousands of adults in N.I. make important decisions about learning.

All adults need a wide range of skills in their working or personal lives. Digital skills are now just as important as traditional literacy, language, numeracy and ICT (Information Communication Technology)learning.

What does EGSA offer?
We can give a comprehensive and independent overview of the wide range of learning that is available and we produce information on popular areas of interest (see Connect2…. Factsheets)

Our team of qualified and experienced advisers can answer a range of questions about learning, for example, what learning is like, what it might cost, whether there is any financial support, and the relevance of qualifications. They can support you in thinking through where to start or what your next step might be. Contact us for more information or search online for courses at course search.

Your Digital Journey will help you develop skills and think through these issues. It will show you how you can use EGSA’s resources to find out more about learning and make your decisions.
